The Southern Historical Society is a public organization whose purpose is to document Southern military and civilian viewpoints from the War of 1861 - 1865. They publish the Southern Historical Society Papers between 1876 through 1959, comprising 52 volumes of articles written by Southern soldiers, officers, politicians, and civilians including Confederate General Jubal Early.

The goal of the Society is to provide the American Republic, especially future generations of Americans, the Southern perspective on the
War of
1861 - 1865 based on firsthand accounts supported by firsthand historical documentation as a response to and in opposition against the bias of Northern Historians.
